NAUTICAL AMERICANA - BLUE CRAB

This series was inspired by a vintage Vogue editorial from the late 1940's. There was a small detail in the cover shot that had a Maine lobster lying on a deck next to a bunch of Magnolia flowers.  This detail immediately caught my eye and I was drawn to the juxtaposition of the delicate flowers next to the raw marine life.  They looked so beautiful together.  Upon further research, I noted that the Florida and Massachusetts state flowers would fit perfectly in a series surrounding this inspiration. I love the range of color that shows up in a Blue Crab and felt with these white floral buds then I could create a piece with a traditionally harsh creature and add a softness and beauty to it.  ~ Alexandra Catherine

Not my first rodeo!

I love Step Change. First, the socks are awesome! The shirts are soft and perfect fit and the artwork is beautiful. Gave most (ok maybe a little narcissistic Christmas gift to myself) to friends and family. What a great way to take a step to saving our ecosystem.
